Hallowed Be Thy Name
from Profanity on SermonAudio · host Steven Dahl
God doesn't need us. We are unable to hallow God's Name; He must do it himself. 1. In Judgment 2. In Salvation 3. In Covenant We must ask the Lord to consecrate/hallow His Name to us in Christ. A. Ask for a spirit of mourning over sin. B. Ask to be forgiven for profaning His Name. C. Ask for the promises of the New Covenant in Christ. God alone hallows His own name, not because of human merit, but out of His sovereign glory and love. God's holiness is vindicated through judgment, salvation, and covenant—each revealing humanity's inability to honor God in our own strength. The passage emphasizes that Israel's exile and profanation of God's name among the nations did not diminish His glory, but rather prompted a divine response: God acts not for Israel's sake, but for the sake of His holy name, which He alone can restore. Through the new covenant, God promises a radical inner transformation—a new heart, a renewed spirit, and the indwelling of His Spirit—fulfilled in Christ, who alone can cleanse and consecrate. We are called to repentant humility, mourning over their sin, confessing their profanation of God's name, and receiving anew the grace of a cleansed heart, so that worship and life may truly honor God's glory, not their own.
