Halo Multiplayer From Activision Was Reportedly in Development

from Destin Legarie Podcast | Save State Plus · host Destin Legarie

Microsoft has reportedly explored bringing Activision and Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games into the Halo franchise.According to a new report from Rebs Gaming, Activision began testing an early prototype for a Halo multiplayer pitch in June 2026, with Sledgehammer Games potentially assisting development. The prototype reportedly only reached an early blockout phase, testing basic mechanics such as player movement, before Activision canceled it in early July. That apparently doesn't mean the idea is dead. The report claims Microsoft is still exploring the possibility of Activision helping develop future Halo games, although nothing has been greenlit. This comes as Xbox increasingly utilizes studios and outside development partners across its biggest franchises, and raises a huge question: would a Call of Duty studio be a good fit for Halo multiplayer?
