including the greetings. Welcome to another episode of Truth to Power. Some will be joined by like, people who's that call him infinity. It's a, I think that we get going on, but he's a businessman, a successful businessman, and a new Orleans, and I want to give you a respectable, and we're gonna be talking about the Hamburg mentality, and how to face black people.
You're welcome to join us. Your soul's a state. Brother Meg. What's up?
What's going on, Richard? No, I'm chilling. Well, first, welcome to Truth to Power. We're talking about Hamburg mentality.
We touched on it a little bit in our own private town, and I'll leave the time that I did. But let me just go ahead and explain to the people what hamburger mentality means. Hamburg mentality is, let's just say that you got a hamburger from McDonald's, you got one from Burger King, right? And, but you have a preference or how you want to go hamburger dressed.
And instead of somebody say, you want to hamburger, like, it's still a hamburger no matter how you dress it, whatever the case is, it's still gonna be the same thing. But sometimes people will have different preferences for how they want to receive, or how they want to eat certain things, right? And then go with the same thing with your information. So my thing is, my first question to you will be, do you think that having a hamburger mentality is detrimental or hurtful to people, for our people in particular?
I feel like people should have like an open mind when it comes to information. But at the same time, because I feel like if somebody's gonna tell me how to get a million dollars, I don't care how to tell me. Like they're gonna be very disrespectful. I'm still listening.
But so the hamburger mentality is like, I mean, it's difficult to understand people are like that, but me personally, I don't care how the information comes. I call it a lot of times when I'm talking to people, like who's different than what I am or talking to from. I use a conscious effort to have open mind, because a closed mind don't get fit. I was here a closed mind don't get fit, but you say a closed mind don't get fit.
Closed mind don't get fit either. It's funny for the people. I mean, I give it to you what you're saying. So what a closed mind, if you got a closed mind, you never learn that nuke.
Everything gonna be what it's gonna be like from what you didn't learn from whoever, you never gonna learn new things. Because your mind is closed to open it up to new things. So basically everything that you didn't learn in school, that was wrong, you know, everything that you didn't learn that was wrong, is a lot of you, but your mind, because your mind closed, but if you open mind it, it can be, you know, to you're able to learn new things, or think of things in a different way. Yeah, not get there, because you know, I tell the story a lot too, you know, I worked at home deep over like years ago, and there's one way forward.
I still worked there. I still worked there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you know you got other things going on. But I used to work there years ago, and this woman, she came on out, and she was like, she had to be black.
And she was like, hey, could you tell me where this item is? And I directed it where the item was, right? Because we were very busy in my section. So I just directed it where the item was.
And she was like, no, you're gonna have to show me. So this white guy walked up and I was like, hey, where did this item make? And he pointed it out in the same direction, they're not pointing it in, but she didn't tell me to say, okay, I walked right on over there, I got the item in love, first item in love. Now that was very confusing to me at first.
As you know, they had a lot of intents and what they were doing with that, you know, like the mindset, what they did, I started thinking about it because I was a black man, given information that I had to really show her. And she had a mistrust for me instead of somebody that was white, or was it the fact that maybe it was my presentation or how I delivered it to her? But for me, as long as you get to the end game, we don't matter who you get information from, or how they're dressing it up to you. It could be me, like you said, it could be someone just respectful, but in the context of everything, if you get valuable information, and you could use it to progress, I don't think you should care about who you're getting from.
I agree. Now me, myself, I've been accused of being closed, Monday, I don't totally agree with that, but you know, I guess I'm saying that. I said, me, myself, I've been accused of being closed, Monday, I don't totally agree with that. I wouldn't say you're closed, mind it.
You're just one of them people that you have a strong belief in things. So at that moment, you might see a closed, mind it. But I mean, knowing you, I just know how you are. That's, you might seem closed-minded, but you might go to the lab by yourself and think about some stuff on your own, and figure it out on your own, and it might don't be, it might don't have the instant gratification other people are looking for.
They're gonna say you're closed-minded because you're not giving an instant gratification, but you're a thinker. So you're gonna think about it on your own, and figure it out on your own, and go do some research or something, so it's a little different. But that takes from knowing people, knowing how people are. So just to call you closed-minded is like on some other stuff.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So just like on me myself, just talking about like hamburger mentality. How do you think hamburger mentality could affect the romantic relationship? Romantic relationship, right?
Romantic relationship. Said, bro, you're choking me up right now. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That can really be a hard for in a relationship.
Because I mean, you can imagine, you know, you and your girl having a hard-down fuss-slash discussion about something. She go to work and talk to our work husband, and then come home and tell you, or such a such throw me there, you be sitting there looking like, I told you to say it back. But would that be like a respect? Like, I see what they do there.
Like, she know you, right? Let's just say like, I live in a guy like that. And she go to work with a quote-unquote work husband. And he give us the same information.
But she says, she receives it from him. She doesn't receive it from you. Is it something within you that she don't trust at that moment? So, me being who I am and how I think, I know different people receive stuff differently.
So, a lot of times, that work husband is needed. Work husband, I have you, you know, is depending on who it is. But sometimes that person is needed there. And it just, you know, basically play devil's advocate.
So, like, sometimes the work husband is like the shrink. You understand what I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah, be it one sided, but I don't want you saying, though.
Yeah, be it one sided, but I don't want you saying. Yeah. It's depending on where the husband is, because I'm, somehow, I ain't out with you just to be a work husband. They're trying to, the husband too.
Yeah. They think they want to be a husband. They want to be a husband. They want to be a husband.
They want to be a husband. Yeah. So, let's talk about business. Like, your business orange man.
Have you ever come across somebody with a hamburger mentality and business? I wouldn't know. Because when it comes down to business, I mean, I'm, I'm more the person. You got to put your money away in my office.
You know, you can't just be talking to me. You got to, you know, move a little forward to do something else. I wouldn't know. Because I'm only, you know, so.
And I already know like this information that I had. this information that I have at one time, like I feel like all of us really have all the information to be successful. So if we're not doing those things to be successful, do we have a hamburger mentality or is it just we're just not ready to receive that? You know the sort.
I would say that it's a combination of not having a drive and having a hamburger mentality because if somebody was to come to me and be like hey, Terris, this is how you make a million dollars. I'll be like okay because you might have to ask the question. I think I asked this question. I said does my person ask somebody how they got a million dollars or do they ask them to show them how to make a million dollars?
I think both of those questions are viable. What's more beneficial? Show me how? Right.
So somebody was coming to me and saying Terris, let me show you how to make a million dollars. Then I'm out now. I'm out here. But I'm waking up with every time they tell me to wake up from be done.
And I say, well, you guys stay up for 25 hours. 25 hours. I said 25 hours. It is.
Yeah. Listen, listen, you might say 48 hours. Guess what I'm doing? I'm up at the wall.
One my line. We gave me some folders and some goddamn energy drinks. I'm not a boy. I'm not a boy.
I'm not that bush. And then somebody says, Hey, listen, I could show you how to make me in the 10 million. 10 million to 20. You know, so I'm ready to receive information.
Somebody got it. You know what I'm saying? And that's one of the main reasons why I read and do research on all the rest of these things. Because that's a lot of information out there.
But some of this stuff is hidden. And we just don't have proper resources. Yeah, my bad. We made it.
I know bad was sometimes it does. You know, know when I start getting too deep on sometimes. I'm just like, I don't know, bro. I don't know.
Yeah, but I heard my interview on W.O.K. and I was like, oh, no, what is that? Yeah, no. Great.
But like I was saying, though, I just said, oh, that's why I do research and everything else because I'm always willing to receive information and I'm always willing to get information. And I think somebody would tell me what's up is like, as far as my delivery goal, there's like, you got way better. I think I'll tell you this. I was like, I don't think I got way better than my delivery.
I think I just, as far as trying to reach people, I think I just stopped trying to reach people, but I'm still as passionate as I always been. You know what I'm saying? Right. Right.
But as far as my delivery goal, do you think that matters when you give somebody information? I don't think it should matter, but I mean, you can only control who you are. Right. So, I mean, it gets to the point where I feel like, man, my other home, we always be talking about like, are you trying to pass this information along?
Are you trying to win? So when you're trying to win, it's more so that you're just trying to present the information, how you want to present it and whoever get it, get it and whoever don't don't. But if you're really trying to reach the masses, you are just. So am I trying to reach as many people as I can?
How am I trying to win? So tell me something. How did you reach the masses? What you know, you had Bob, you know, how did you reach that?
Bob Friday. Bob Friday. How did you reach? That's for Black owned business Fridays, right?
Yeah. Right. Right. So with that, I just, when it comes to Black owned businesses, like people don't really realize that a lot of times when we go to eat, we don't think about who we going to eat from.
It's most so I want some chicken. Let me go give me some chicken. I want some vegetarian burger or vegan or whatever. I'm going to go to wherever the nearest vegan spot.
I'm going to do that. So what Bob Friday is is making a conscious effort to support Black owned business on Friday. So we have a, they have a list of Black owned businesses and they got, their list is real big in the world. A lot of them don't even realize how many Black owned businesses there are in New Orleans.
Just on the strength that they not represent it like that. So when it comes to like, I just told people, you know, just basically what I just told you about Black owned business and people start to feel that like they have some real good Black owned restaurants. Right. But I mean, I support they won't be able to maintain themselves though.
Which man? I can be enjoying that. They won't be able to maintain themselves without that money because like my back mini touch on all of the 60% of the population, but we only control 2% of the economics. Now we got, we got all these businesses and we got to be able to support them to sustain them.
And so we got to make sure that they outperform every other business, right? Like if they got a restaurant or a small black restaurant, we should be able to, they should be able to compete with cheesecake factory. You know what I'm saying? I agree.
They should be able to compete with zers and China kitchen and other recipes, different places that they have. I grissey. But unfortunately, I don't think it's going down like that for some reason. They're brand new.
I'm going to say some extra strange. So do you know, skip from UTP? Yeah. All right.
He owns the restaurant chicken and watermelon, right? Right. He gives out bikes every year for Christmas, right? Right.
A bunch of them. You know that restaurant, you know that strip mall in is like half the block. That thing we filled up with bikes. So and he give out them bikes every year around Christmas time.
And he sells chicken, you know, and like, you know, they had like 100 piece wings, things of that nature. And they're probably a whole bunch of single black mothers going to get them some bikes, right? But when having birthday parties and parties for their children, what are they going to get their wings from? Probably who does somebody please?
Man choose. Man choose. Things of that age. Oh, wow.
Yeah. So that's like, that's like real crazy to me. And I was talking to my own mother and she knew about the bike giveaway, but never thought about let me go support this guy. There's given a way to buy this.
That's given him where the pipes. So why do you think that even though like you could open a business, you could give back, you know, if your people support the business, you're going to give back to them, give back to the kids. But when it turns around and they have some type of function, they could benefit too financially for your business. How do you think it's there and they will rather support other people than their own people?
I come to the conclusion that they're not trying to do that. It's just like when people think about food and things and partisan things, they just think about that. So to support black owned business, you have to start making a conscious effort to support black owned business. You understand what I'm saying?
So that's what the Bob Friday's about is making a conscious effort to support black owned business. You have to actually want to do that. You have to think about it. I would have to actually, when I'm driving up the street and I'm thinking about chicken, I have to, in my mind, I have to skip over Popeyes.
I've been going to Popeyes all my life. I've been going to churches all my life. So that's programming in my brain. So you have to actually make a conscious effort to support black owned business.
Because first, for ad, it might don't be as easy to get to it. You might be uptown in a black owned business downtown. So versus I'm hungry right now, but I'm going to go drive a little bit further to get, you know, support a black owned business. Or I would just pop eyes.
They got two ever black. So to me, I mean, I'm going to keep it 100. I basically can get anybody to do whatever I want them to do. You'd be surprised if you make something sound so terrible, how much somebody would not do it if you make it sound so terrible.
Right. Let me break up a story about the way you did that to me. I'm about to be more conscious about it though. So we were working at a whole depot.
You know, in a family, I called him a family. But a family, he was up there. He was like, man, I was like, yeah, I'm actually fine. That's a nice kitchen, right?
So a family told me, he said, hey, he said, you only like, like, you know, you're like, I'm like, you only like light space with me. That's a brand that I like real life. And I was like, what is saying about the right people, this guy became light space? Are you only light space with me?
So this is one another that's why I'm a brother. I don't want to say. I was going public. I was like, you know what?
And I said, my son's mother's on the 22nd. He said they don't count. I was like. I was like, they said, I was like, but I'm on day.
Has the body of the dog scared. They don't count either. I was like, okay. They don't count either.
I was like, okay. I'm like, okay. I'm like, I'm better down here with it. You over here as a girlfriend.
I think about it. I really thought about it. I was like, I like, man, you got a point. I had to think about it to give you a, I'd give it to you.
You got a point. But I made it a couple of times enough to start dating dogs, skin, women, and like discriminating, you know what I'm saying? Because, and I mean, I got back at their present and what they like and stuff like that. But it's nothing wrong with that.
Nothing wrong with that. But what you thought, limiting yourself to a certain type of skin tone within your own race, just because you know, I said, you feel like this, or it's better, or you've been programmed to think that this, what you mean, then that's not the wrong. Something wrong with that, you know what I'm saying? And it's a beautiful, brand new to my attention in order for you to, you know, really see that, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah. But I agree with you. Like sometimes you need somebody to open your eyes with certain things. And then I just kept on doing research about everything.
And I said, like I did research on that. I was like, and I just kept on doing research, research, research. And I was like, damn, let me go ahead, reprogram, I had to really reprogram my mind and make a conscious effort to, um, declare all the things that I've been talking about in my whole life. Yeah, dude, I'm telling you, when, when, when, when it, when you start to really realize what didn't happen to you and like how your, how your brain works and why your brain works like that, you, like you really have to open your mind to really understand what been going on.
And like, there's some people feel like, oh, that happened way back when like, no, this stuff, yeah, happen way back when, but guess what? It has been passed on by generation, by generation, by generation, by generation. So if all I see in your case, if all you see was your uncles and whoever will like skin the women, that's what I belong with, right? I deserve one of them.
So, you know, it's, you know, it's a whole bunch of stuff like that. You really don't, don't know how to get an instance for, for me. It's just somebody, uh, broken down for me. So, um, like, I don't know if you know, it's like the last couple of years, like a lot of black females been wearing their natural hair, right?
Right. So when my first thought when that happened, I'm like, man, it's going on. It kind of occurs on this podcast. Right.
First thing, first thing kid in my head like, man, what's up with all these nappy headholes running around. Yeah. Okay, I was, I was okay. Don.
I'm just, I don't know who that is, but it's not familiar. Yeah. Go ahead. So I'm like, man, what's up with all these nappy?
You know, running around you like that. So, I'm running it with a little female and she tell me about the whole natural hair movement and all that and all the things that came with it. Oh my God. I'm about that, man.
I'm tripping my life. So I had to reprogram myself to like natural, a black woman in her natural farm with the natural hair. So, man, it was right. You're right.
You're completely right. When they, you know, when she put, but she had to put me on that to make me realize that. So now I'm making a conscious effort to look around because I see a lot of females who even go natural, they wind up going back. So I'm thinking to myself, like, why is they going back?
Oh, picture this, bro. You listening? I'm listening. Black males don't like natural hair.
That's a strong statement, right? You don't stand by that? Yeah. Why you say that?
Because it just like I didn't know. If all I'd have seen all my life is female's with princess hair, that's what I'm like. So they got a lot of black males coming up who got a close mind, who not go listen to that female and let you know what's happening with that or whatever. So, you know, I was a Uber driver for three luxurious years.
By the way, y'all make it back here. Business man, go ahead and driving around the French quarters. You know who I seen with the like, seen with the natural hair? White dudes.
But you know, that's more like a fetish for them, though. You get what I'm saying, it's more like anxiety type things for them, almost like a, I'm just gonna go ahead and say, I'm just gonna go ahead and say, I'm looking at it. They fantasize, they fantasize our women and they want their woman to look as black, quote unquote black as possible, but they still think that they, you know, make it in a way. You get me?
I agree with that. But the females don't know that. All they know is acceptance. So how would you go about changing somebody's perception about natural hair?
Like what would you say to them? Well, you know, like I told you earlier, I make them think it's the worst on the planet. And like a lot of them say natural hair is not for me. And the first thing on my head is like, so what you telling me is the hair, the natural hair that grows out of your head is not for you.
Then who the hell is for? And I tell them they hate hearing this. But you know where the perms and all that come from, right? I don't know what the I know what the gist is like they come, you know, try to get accepted by white people.
I don't know exactly how to make the perms and whatnot. Oh, that's what I meant. I mean, I'm talking about this far as like the reason why perms was made is to look like it's to look like Europeans. Yeah.
But and be like, I ain't doing that for that. Like, yeah, but that's where it comes from. I mean, I mean, even look at the dudes back then, the dudes was doing it. Malcolm makes that the point we do.
That was the same hairstyle that the Europeans had. That's, you know, that's what she was rock. I mean, that's what they were rock. So how can you change that?
Oh, it's just easy to manage this is easy to manage because this is all you're doing. Anything you practice, you're going to get easy, it's going to be easier for you. All right. And you got to, and like you said, you really got to just practice, just making a kind of self and I guess in that case, you got to learn how to love yourself.
Because if you don't love the natural hair, then you know, what what are you loving? Are you loving somebody that's perception of you or you loving somebody else? I deal with you. You know what I'm saying?
Yes, sir. So just getting so just loving your natural hair. That's a part of just loving yourself. And also, you know, I was at the side note, if people do research, the reason why we got course hair or what they call a navy hair and it sticks up is because that's how we communicate with the planet and the earth around us.
It's very deep. Once you start doing research about it, because we are original people. So and we got certain instincts. So the thing is hit us through the way our hair is and how it's shaped and everything like that.
I know a lot of people won't go on, don't understand it or they might do research themselves in order for them to understand it. But that's one of the reasons why natural hair is very important because I had to start, I had to start looking for women with natural hair. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
I started thinking I was looking at women with natural hair. The only day infinity turned my perspective about life skin women around and things like that. And they said, but you also turned my perspective like I went all the way with it. I had a stream mindset.
So I'm either one way or the other way. I know every movie. This is how I am. I could maybe I could grow into a gray area one day, but at this present moment, I realized that I'm either black or white and you know gray area.
And I went all the way and I was like, you know what? I like don't feel me. I don't know like dogs can. What about dating a dog skin woman with natural hair and things like that?
Because part of loving the woman that you with and accepting all the things that she has, that's why skin color skin tone on the same nose is you the same eyes as you the same hair as you. That's part of loving yourself too, Yes, sir. So, I said, um, believe it or not, women are women are attracted to somebody who looks like their daddy acts like their daddy or whatever and they vice versa for the for the male. So how you got a black ass month, but you want to read about it?
Well, you know, I'm my brown skin. I'm my brown skin and one talk about you. I'm general. No, when I wear you, I just mean, you know, but also I want to ask you why we had the opportunity, you know, just to pick a brand a little bit, you got your own company.
How did you get people to support you and your own company? I know you didn't tell me the worst thing in the world. How did you get them to support your company? Because I know they're going to reinforce me and that's how you can get people to support.
How did you get them to support your company? When it comes down, I'm kind of my company and I'm going to go real street with it. And I treat my company as like, like a selling cocaine. I mean, it sells itself.
Allegedly, it's like cocaine. I heard you on the rap song, man. What do you mean by that? It sells itself.
It sells itself. So if you present a good product, it's going to sell itself. And I'm not, I don't, I guess I'm not looking for support because I'm black or anything like that. It's just straight up, I'm going to give you a good product.
You ain't got no choice but to support me. And I took a chapter out of these youngsters book, you know, back then, he used to have to have a better product than, you know, personality. But now it's more about the personality will sell your product. So like if people like you, they can support you.
So it just got to be likable. Okay. And one thing, one thing I've seen like people who I know they be worried about is I think like people put too much emphasis on support and a group of people want us, you want a group of people supporting you and things of that nature. But you don't even need none of that stuff, man.
Like, like, like, I've seen people talk about they don't get as many likes or loves on it. They statuses and things of that nature. I'm like, are you doing it for likes? Or you're trying to reach the people.
So if you're really trying to reach the people, you don't you don't kill them. But like, yeah, like it's good. That's upon us. But oh well, you got to you got to reach the people.
Right. Like I mean, had people like, say my for safe, my quotes line online. And they never liked none of my stuff. So am I really, am I going for the likes?
Or am I trying to reach the people? Most definitely. Well, and family about to get up out of here, man. I need a people with a positive quote when they get to go to.
Is it a little? I can't hear you breaking up wet. Yeah, I'm kind of breaking up still. The phone was ringing.
Okay. Is it a long and short at the same time? So well, one of the like, when you worry about support and people supporting you and you have actually, we wondering like, why do people close to you? It's not supporting you.
Like, people like strangers support you. And I listen to the video and they said the reason why it is is because the people close to you are too close to the light. You being the light, that light will be that light is blinding when it's right next to you. So it's a burden when it's right next to you is blinding you.
You're like, man, I can't see. But those people fall off in the distance. They see you shining. It looked like a it looked like that Rick James Ora that Charlie Murphy was talking about.
You know what I mean? Yeah, you know, they feel like they feel, you know, they feel like you the one because they're different. They can see you. It's not blinded.
So to give very good, a good explanation of that would be like when that's something you have to be outside and it's hot and it's something right there. And you'd be like, man, what a cloud that. You see what I'm saying? But imagine somebody on the other side of New Orleans or wherever you at in this cool is a little cool.
It's kind of like a cool coldness. You know what I mean? Like right before cold, but you know, it's a nice little breeze. But that same sun, it just hitting you on your back just nice little wall pictures feel good.
You understand what I'm saying? And that same sun was a burden to that person where it was like, oh, man, it's hot. But on the other side of the thing, when there's a little cool, that sun just on your back and it's feeling so good. The same sun, one person in joining, one person is they burg.
So when you're thinking about people supporting you and that your people close to you not supporting you like people fall, just realize that they're too close to the sun. They don't see it like other people say. Yeah, I fairly got cut off on some stuff, but I guess my positive quote would be always keep going. But God is of any type of resistance from other people and things of that nature.
I just keep going, man. And I've got to give my thanks to the people. I mean, to the pain, I reach the pain, I reach the other places, I think I reach feeling. So this is international, this podcast is international.
You know, South Africa, Mexico, all other places, I get humbled every time I look at all the people that's listening to my podcast because, like I said before, at first this started, it's something for me just to talk about my shit. But now it's something bigger. And we both just spoke truth to power. I want you to have a good night.
