For instance, they recently claimed a massive operation against the medical device company Stryker Corporation, allegedly wiping over 200,000 devices across dozens of countries. They also claimed to have breached payment systems at Verifone and have previously targeted various critical infrastructure and financial institutions in the Middle East.The hack of Director Patel's personal account comes at a time of significant turmoil for his leadership. Patel, who became the ninth Director of the FBI in early 2025, has been a central figure in several high-profile controversies. Beyond the recent cyber incident, reports have surfaced regarding his alleged misuse of agency resources, such as using an FBI SWAT team to provide security for his girlfriend and using government aircraft for personal travel.Furthermore, his tenure has been marked by diplomatic friction and ethical questions. During a visit to New Zealand, he reportedly presented local officials with 3D-printed "revolver" gifts that New Zealand police ultimately classified as prohibited firearms under their strict gun laws. Domestically, he has faced scrutiny for failing to disclose prior consulting work for the Embassy of Qatar and other foreign entities during his confirmation process.
