Hello everyone, I'm Ian Card and welcome to my new podcast. This is the first episode, I'm basically just going to be talking about stuff and kind of talking through them. And the first thing I want to talk about in this first episode is happiness, because it's a topic we hear about a lot nowadays. Like a lot, you have meditation that's getting trendy and living to your full potential.

And you know, all of those ideas are good in my opinion. They're like stuff like meditation, especially you just like sitting down with your thoughts and just kind of letting them... Seeing how your mind works is just like it's the simplest thing you can do. It's hard, but it's simple.

Like it's not complicated, but it's extremely difficult to do. And it's a good thing to do and it's like the simplest way to see how your mind works. So that's good, and that's getting trendy and that's getting demensified. And yeah, that's always cool, but there's this term of happiness that gets linked to it.

Like meditation can make you more happy or you have those people on fricking Instagram or YouTube. Like living their life like it's their last year or like they're going to die the day after and you see them travel. And you see them do all this sort of stuff and do this activity that one might find joyful. And I think we're forgetting that I don't link happiness with joy.

That's the thing is that to me happiness is more fulfillment than it is joy. And right now I feel like the message that we're kind of spreading... As a society, I've listened to Westseil, I'm French, but I've given to the US. It's that you need to be happy with your life, but happy being joyful.

So you need to be in a constant state of kind of like bliss. You need to like what you're doing constantly because if you don't constantly like what you're doing, then you're doing something wrong. And I don't think that's true. You need a good life.

And again, I'm freaking out. So it's not like I know of this. So I'm not going to act like I know of this. So take all of what I'm about to say with a very interesting but to live a good life, you need to do a lot.

You're going to need to do a lot of things that are difficult. And it's an easy thing to say. It's a hard thing to do. But you're going to have to work and you're going to have to do maybe do stuff you know is right?

But you just don't want to do it. Progressionation exists for a reason. And a lot of that stuff in the long run, if you end up building it, it's going to make you feel fulfilled. And it may make you feel better about your life.

But in the moment, you will not feel really. Like I'm going to give an example. Imagine you have a paper view. And first option, you watch an entire season of Rick and Morty.

Because that's the way you watch an entire season of Rick and Morty like in the days that you have to make your assignment. Then you end up like writing it in the last minute. Maybe it's not saying right in the last minute and you turn it in and you get a terrible grade. You watching Rick and Morty was the easiest thing to do at that moment.

And it may have brought you joy. Maybe not sometimes because maybe it just feels like shit. But it was easy. But it wasn't the right thing.

In the long term, you're not going to feel good about that. You might not like if you do it like we don't know if we do it too much. We don't feel good about that. Or you can just power through it and write that damn essay.

And it's going to take two hours. Two hours of your time. But in the long run, you're going to feel good about that. If it's due in four days and you do it four days earlier, you might watch your season of Rick and Morty.

But you will have done your essay. You will feel good about it. You'll be like, yeah, I did it. And you will feel more fulfilled than if you just procrastinated.

And that's what I'm getting at is doing writing your essay. You might know it's the right thing to do. You might even like writing. I like writing.

But even assignments like this are just hard to start and to maintain. And I don't feel any joy while doing it. I mean, but I feel the fulfillment I feel after doing what I know I'm supposed to do is worth it. And so, yeah, I guess what I'm getting at is that I think it's BS.

I think right now the current message that we're sending as a society is that in order to live a good life, you need to be happy. And by happy, we mean that you need to do things that you like constantly. And almost do things that other people will like us. And you have to put on YouTube and Instagram.

Like, come on. I like freaking. I like psychology. I freaking lost psychology.

When I was in a career where this book on the hypnosis and it was a boring book. And it was kind of old to some of the stuff, even like I've been false. I'm pretty sure it was. It's just, yeah, it was kind of sound mystical.

Like a lot of people just looking at the first page of that book might have been bored, like bored out of their minds. And I can't force, but the book was also damn interesting. And what I knew in the book, I still I'm using to this day. And it wasn't extremely easy to read, but I knew I was going to get something out of it.

And I don't regret one second of reading it. There's a lot of, there's just like, there's a lot of stuff that you might do that you know other people aren't going to find fun. It might not seem fun. It might not be fun to do on the moment.

But doing it will make you feel happy in the longer, in the sense that it won't make you feel fulfilled. Even though, hey, you might not post on Instagram. You might not like, you can't take a picture of it. Maybe it's like, you might think it's boring to other people.

But you doing it, if you know you want to do it, or you know that doing it will get you the best known term result, then doing it is the best solution. And maybe that's what makes you happy. And it's not freaking traveling to exotic places maybe. Because that's maybe like an hour I'm just rambling.

I don't even know if any of what I said came from the internet made sense. But a lot of things you see is also people traveling. And that seems to be the new thing in terms of like leaving to your full potential. And that traveling is freaking incredible in terms of kind of opening your mind to new ideas.

But the water doesn't need to be freaking blue like sky blue. You don't need to be out of freaking resort to feel like a sense of happiness in traveling. Maybe you're traveling super hard. Maybe it's like you're going to a country, you don't know the language, you're not filming it because you really don't have the time and energy.

You're learning the language actively. You're just like maybe you're going to school. And it's maybe it's hard. Like I don't even know really what I'm saying at this point.

I guess I'm going to wrap it up. Happiness doesn't have to have joy. Happiness just has to have fulfillment. And it has to be things that make you happy in my opinion.

Have to be things that you know are right to do or you feel are right to do. Even if they don't give you a sense of joy right away. Or they don't give you a sense of like maybe even feeling really really good. You might feel anxious about doing them.

Not procrastinating obviously. They might be hard. They might not like instantly enjoyable but you might know they're right to do. I think that's the key word right because when you procrastinate you know that's not right.

Like that's not BS or stuff. Like when we watch the next episode of a series and we know we have homework or we have to do some make-not homework. That's doing stuff. But like you know you have work.

Like we know we shouldn't watch that next episode yet. We do it anyways. I think that's torture for the mind. But we do it.

But yeah so it's doing happiness to me in the long term means doing stuff that you know are right to do. But you might not want to do them necessarily. I guess I don't know if that was that. Holy crap that was 10 minutes.

I hope it wasn't too much rambling. And yeah. See you next time for another therapy.
