Harish Iyer on Agile World Indie S05 E04

from Agile World Podcast · host Agile World ®

With the ICC T20 World cup on its way, Jayshree Nair and Jatin Sanghavi had a opportunity to connect with Harish Iyer who spoke about a cricketing analogy for Agile. Harish Iyer is Clan Owner and Head of Engineering at Digitate, a TCS Venture. A civil engineer by education, a software professional by vocation, with 25+ years of experience in building high performance, distributed, scalable, software products, platforms, and applications. He started his career at TCS and has been with them for over 25+ years. A lot of principles in Agile methodology have an interesting parallel to a team sport like cricket. Cricket is a team game which is played all over India in any corner, on the streets, in the playground and where not. The team as a whole wins or loses. Similarly an Agile Sprint is a team event. The whole team comes together to successfully deliver the sprint. Success of failure of a sprint is attributed to the entire team. When a team loses in a cricket match, they don’t give up. They take the learnings from that match and look forward to the next. Similarly a scrum team does a retrospective at the end of a sprint and evaluates how it performed. It derives learnings from this and tries to improve in the next sprint.
