Hello everybody, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie, I am your host, and today we are going to be talking about Harry Styles. I was very, very, very lucky enough to be able to go to his concert in Los Angeles. I have a friend who lives there and goes to college at UCLA, so I was visiting her and we were able to get tickets and go to his concert.
And it was so amazing and so exciting and I'm so excited to talk to you about it. So Harry Styles did a 15-night residency in Los Angeles at the Forum, and it was so amazing, it was so outstanding. His opener was Ben Harper, who was so iconic, so amazing, he was so good. He played a song called Inland Empire, and it is so good, it is so good, it's completely instrumental, and it's so peaceful, it's so amazing.
So I'm going to play a little bit of it, because it's just, it's so good, I can't not play it. I love that song, I love that song so much, it's so amazing, and it's so pretty, and it's so peaceful, and so sentimental, and I love it. I've been listening to it non-stop since, I've seen it live, it was so good, he's so good, and he was so skilled. He played it with like, I forget what it's called, but it was like a sit-down guitar, or like a knee guitar, I feel bad because I forget the memory of it.
And he explained it afterwards, which was so cool, but it was like a guitar that lay flat on his lap, and there was like a little stand for one leg, and then he rested the big part of the guitar on his other leg, and he played it with like a steel pick or something. It was so cool, it was so cool, that his, Ben Harper's portion of the concert was insane, it was so good. At one point, he brought on background singers, and one of them had a solo during There Will Be Light, and she could like go on tour by herself. She is so good.
It was insane, we had, like, Ben Harper like stopped singing at one point just so we could applaud her, because she was so good. Her voice is so powerful, oh my gosh, it's insane. Okay, here is There Will Be Light. She's so good, oh my gosh.
You can't really hear it in the video, but the applause she got was so loud, and she totally deserved it, because her voice is outstanding. Something special and so sweet that Ben Harper also did was he brought on his kids, he brought on CJ and Harris. CJ played the piano while Harris sang and played the guitar, and she was so good. Harris is so outstanding, I love her so much, I'm like her biggest fan now.
She was so good, she sang Longest Apocalypse, and it was so good. Sure, her voice reminds me of Phoebe Bridgers, which is so cool, because I love Phoebe's voice, it's so unique, it's so cool. But here's a little bit of Harris playing Longest Apocalypse, that's so cool. Imagine playing, okay, just imagine, like, your dad's going on tour with, like, one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now, and then he's like, do you want to sing a song with me, like, while I'm opening?
Like, what? That's so cool, that's so cool. Um, okay, anyway, now, now here's Harris singing Longest Apocalypse. She's, oh my gosh, I want to be her best friend, she's so cool.
Yeah, Ben Harper was absolutely amazing, he was so good. Like, I want to go to his concert, but he's not touring anymore. Or, like, he doesn't, he's not opening for Harry anymore, I don't know if he's doing any more tours, hopefully he is. But, anyway, onto the real opener, not opener, onto the real headliner of the concert, Harry Styles.
He was so good, it was his last show, which was so cool, it was so special, it was so good. He just puts on such a good concert, like, he really can't complain. Going to the concert, like, it's just so fun, everyone there is so nice, and everyone is so dressed up, it's so fun, it's totally a fashion show. There's people there in, like, pajama sets, there's people in sequined dresses, there's people with cowgirl hats, like, there's, it really is truly a fashion show.
If you ever have the opportunity to go to a Harry Styles concert, go. Even if you don't like him, your experience will be so good, I can guarantee you, because everyone's so nice, everyone's always like, oh my gosh, I love your outfit. Like, they'll take pictures for you if you take pictures for them, like, it's so, everyone's just so nice, it was so fun. But I love Harry, he's so good, he's so adorable, so cute.
He sings Satellite, which is one of my favorite songs of his new album, Harry's House, and it's so good. I remember, like, that's, when I listened to the album for the first song, I was like, okay, this is, this is a good song. Like, Satellite might be my favorite, like, I just knew from the start that it was good. And so hearing it live is so fun.
So here's a little bit of Satellite. I love that song, it's so fun. He did, Harry Styles dances so much during his concerts, and it's not, like, choreographed dancing at all, which is, like, maybe even better, because you can just tell he's having so much fun. You can tell he's having so much fun, and he just is enjoying the performance and, like, singing, and it's so cute and so adorable.
And I love his dancing, he danced so well during Satellite and all the other songs, it was so fun. Another song that is absolutely iconic and I absolutely adore and will always listen to is Kiwi. It is off Harry Styles' first album, Harry Styles, and it's insane, it's so good. It's such, like, a classic, like, rock song.
Not classic rock, but it's not, like, I feel like sometimes, nowadays, not that I have any relevance to this, because I am growing up in the nowadays portion of life, but I feel like now there's a lot of songs that are being released and called rock that I wouldn't consider rock. Like, I feel like it's a lot more poppy than it is rock, so. But this, I feel like it's truly a rock song, so here's a little bit Kiwi. I love that song, that's just such a fun song, it makes me want to dance, it's so, it's amazing, it's so good.
I hope when you're listening to that, you notice something other than Harry. I hope you notice the drums, because I want to talk about the drums for a second. Sarah Jones, the icon herself, she is Harry Styles' drummer, and she is insane. She is so good.
Like, the drums are so powerful and require so much effort, and Sarah is just, like, she doesn't, she, like, doesn't even break a sweat. Like, she, like, I want to, I want to meet her, I want to be her best friend, like, I wish I had some connection to her, because she's so iconic and so amazing, and I feel like she would just be such an interesting conversation, and I'm just talking to her, she's insane, her drumming skills are literally through the roof, I, it's so, she's so good. Like, I can't even begin to explain to you my love I have for Sarah, she's so good, I love her with my whole heart. I also love another song that is off Harry's album, Music for a Sushi, this song is Music for a Sushi Restaurant, his album is Harry's house, but Music for a Sushi Restaurant is so fun, it's so good, it's just very, like, silly, and it's so fun.
Here's a little bit of Music for a Sushi Restaurant. That song is so fun, I love it so much. Harry, for his encore, sang four songs. He was supposed to sing three, but he sang an extra one, but we'll get to that in a second.
He opened his encore with Sign of the Times, and it is so good, I love that song so much, it is so powerful and so amusing, I love listening to it, so I'm going to play a little bit now. I love that song, it's so good, it's so powerful, and Sarah's drumming, again, is just so amazing. I love it so much, it's so good, it truly is so magical to hear it live. Okay, since this was Harry's last show, he sang two extra songs, I forgot about that, I said four earlier, but he actually sang five in the whole group, it was so good.
He sang one of his unreleased songs called Medicine, and let me tell you, when that song started playing, like something changed in the room, everyone started screaming at the top of their lungs, and I swear to you, that is the loudest I've ever heard a concert beat. Out of all the concerts I've been to, I've never heard anyone be as loud as when this song started playing. It was insane, like you could barely hear the music play, everyone was just screaming, it was actually so insane, I was very shocked by it. But he also brought out Ben Harper, who opened for him, to sing a song with him, and it was so good, they sang Boyfriends, and Ben actually helped Harry make Boyfriends, like the song, and it was so special, because one, my family has just loved the song Boyfriends, my mom loves a band called Little Big Town, I love them as well, but my mom especially loves them, she's going to see them in concert, like she's, I think she went to Atlantic City, I think that's where she went, she traveled to see them, it was so cute, she went with her friend in Audrey, who's my sister, and yeah, she loves Little Big Town, and so one thing that Little Big Town does very well is they harmonize incredibly, it's absolutely insane, and so whenever, when my mom heard Boyfriends for the first time, she said it reminded her of a Little Big Town song, because the harmonies in Boyfriends is so amazing, it's so special, and so I always sing to my mom when I hear Boyfriends, because I was, I call it the Little Big Town song to her, because she's not very good with remembering song names, so like, if I say, like, oh, Harry's singing the Little Big Town song, she'll know what I'm talking about, but anyway, it's an outstanding song, and it's so amazing, and Harry actually hadn't sang it, like, since he was touring in Europe, which was this past summer, so this was the first time he sang it in a while, and I was so lucky that I was able to hear it, because I love it, it's one of my favorites off of his new album, and it's so special, and so amazing, it was so good, and Ben sang too, and he was incredible, it was just very special, and I was very lucky I got to hear it, so I'm gonna play a little bit for you, here's Boyfriends, performed by Harry Styles and Ben Harper.
I, like, I can't even speak, like, it's, that song is so good, and Harry performed it so well, Ben performed it so well, Ben was singing that really, really low, like, raspy, like, notes, oh my gosh, it was so beautiful, it was so good, it was actually insane, I love that song, and I love Ben, and I love Harry, and I love that I got to hear it live, that's so cool, that's so cool, okay, that's so special. Something I also want to talk about is the Forum, which is where the concert was held, it was so cool, the venue was, like, really small, Harry, I feel like, with how big Harry is, he should be playing a bigger venue, but I love that he played the Forum, because it felt so small compared to, like, other venues I've seen him in, it was insane, they also decorated it, like, it was fully decked out for Harry, it was insane, there was, like, lyrics of his on the walls that you could take pictures with, there was pictures of him that you could take pictures with, there was, like, so many merch booths, like, way more than a normal venue, which was so great, they had lounge chairs, they had, like, customized cups that said Harry Styles on them, like, they went full out, and it was actually insane, and something that's really unique about the Forum's venue is that most of, like, the concessions and, like, food venues or whatever is actually outside of the venue, so you, like, get your security, scan your ticket, whatever, and then you go onto a terrace, and it's basically this, like, terrace or deck or whatever that surrounds the whole stadium, not stadium, arena, venue, whatever it might be, and it's, like, all of this stuff is out there, like, there were merch booths out there, there was a bar out there, there was food, there was games, like, basically, like, if you were in your seats, the place you would be is on the terrace, which I thought was really interesting, on the inside they did have, like, bathrooms, in a bar, and, like, tiny food venues, but, like, the majority of everything was outside, which I thought was so cool and so smart, it was so fun, it was so fun, it was insane, the Forum is such a cool venue, too, it was, like, it was, I wanted, like, I had a bucket list on my phone, and I had, like, venues that I wanted to see concerts in, and the Forum was on it, and I was so excited that I can say I went to a concert at the Forum now, because it was so cool, it was so cool, and, like, every seat was a good seat, like, there was, like, you would be in the upper bowl, and it would look amazing, and then you would be, like, in the lower bowl, and it would look amazing, too, and you'd be on the floor, and it would look amazing, like, it was insane, I didn't sit in all those places, by the way, I was looking up videos of the concert after, but it was insane, everyone's used to seem to be really good, it was so cool, it was so cool, I'm actually very lucky that I got to go to that concert.
