And the only federal case on the DOJ page involves two Hawaiian men sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for attacking a white man moving into Kahakuloa Village on Maui — one of the defendants saying during the attack: no white man is ever going to live here.That is a hate crime. And it sits inside a state whose indigenous people had their kingdom illegally overthrown by American businessmen backed by U.S. Marines in 1893 — a fact the United States Congress formally acknowledged and apologized for in 1993.This episode holds all of it.
