Hausu (1977) — "Old cats can open doors. But only ghost cats can close them again."
from The Kulturecast · host Weirding Way Media
We end Horrortober and celebrate Halloween with Hausu, a film that defies logic and convention at every turn. Directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi, the film follows seven schoolgirl friends as they visit one friend's aunt for a leisurely summer getaway. The vacation turns into a nightmare as a demonic cat, a possessed house, and a hungry piano start picking off the friends one by one. It's a straightforward plot, but with an execution that is at times hilarious, surreal, and bizarre. Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, and Sean Liang talk Nobuhiko Obayashi, man-eating pianos, Japanese horror, and so much more.
