God does the extraordinary through ordinary people, even through a peasant girl in an occupied country in the backwater of the Roman Empire. But God works through the willing, through those who have the courage to say yes, through those who are willing to begin the journey, through those willing to take the first steps even though they can’t see it the entire pathway.Mary was willing to risk it all to answer he call. In her society a pregnant woman without a husband was the object of shame and ridiculed. She ran the risk of her family rejecting her and disowning her. Though somewhat unlikely, she ran the risk of death. Mary had the courage to say yes. For most of us it takes courage to follow the path God has for us. Some will ridicule us. Some will abandon us. For some of us we will risk losing what we have. It’s up to us to trust that God is leading us to a better place and will bless many through us.
