Have you forgotten that you are in a race?

from Faith and Victory Church Auburn Sermons · host Faith and Victory Church

Using Hebrews 12:1–11 and the picture of the demanding Spartan Beast obstacle race, this message reminds us that the Christian life includes conflict, struggle, endurance, and discipline. Whether we realize it or not, every one of us is running a race, and God has called us to run the course set before us faithfully. Hebrews tells us that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—people who trusted God, endured hardship, and remained faithful until the end. Their lives testify that God’s promises are true. We also see powerful examples of faith in the believers around us: people who continue worshiping through sickness, loss, financial hardship, marriage struggles, loneliness, and disappointment. Their endurance encourages us, but our lives are also being watched. The way we respond to hardship can either encourage or discourage others. Our actions reveal the kind of witness we are becoming. To run well, we must lay aside unnecessary weight. Fear, anger, jealousy, division, lust, doubt, shame, unforgiveness, and self-reliance can quietly entangle us and slow our spiritual progress. We must ask God to search our hearts, examine our ways, and reveal anything that does not belong in our race. Above everything else, we must fix our eyes on Jesus. He endured the cross, disregarded its shame, and remained focused on the joy set before Him. Jesus was able to endure because He looked beyond His present suffering and saw the eternal purpose and reward ahead. This message also challenges us to welcome God’s discipline. Not every difficult season is an attack from the enemy. Sometimes God is correcting, testing, refining, and training us because He loves us as His children. His discipline may be painful, but afterward it produces a peaceful harvest of righteousness in those who allow themselves to be trained by it. Through Jesus Christ, you have what you need to finish well. The Holy Spirit is your Helper, Guide, Strengthener, and Advocate. Lay aside the weight, receive God’s correction, keep your eyes on Jesus, and run your race with endurance. May we all reach the finish line and hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Visit Faith and Victory Church: https://faithandvictory.com Watch sermons and subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@FaithandVictoryChurch
