In Luke 14:26, 27, 33, Jesus listed three things he requires. 1. We must hate all others—hate is defined in Genesis 29:30-31 as, loving others less than we love Jesus, 2. We must bear our own cross of self-denial, described in Mark 8:34-38 as laying down our self-determination and taking up his will for our lives, 3. We must be willing to renounce all that we have, defined in Luke 5:4-11 as leaving all this world has to offer to follow Jesus.
