Hawaii’s Tipoff Event Turns 10 | Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors Basketball News

For nine years, the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team has turned its home court into a fan-fueled celebration with the Tipoff Event — a sold-out, interactive preseason banquet that blends Q&A panels, auctions, and community spirit to raise vital funds for the program. Inspired by other schools but uniquely Hawaiian, this event owes much to local organizer Sidney Hamada, whose grassroots hustle keeps it alive. As college hoops evolves — with more roster churn, NIL deals, and rising costs — events like this aren’t just fun; they’re essential survival tools. This year marks the 10th anniversary, with organizers eyeing 500 fans to cheer on the team as they step into a new season — proving that passion, community, and creativity keep Hawaii’s program soaring.
