Hawk Fire Forces Mass Evacuations | Las Vegas News

The Hawk Fire is roaring through northwest Reno, Nevada, forcing 42,000 into mandatory evacuations and another 45,000 into warning zones as flames race toward the University of Nevada campus. Caused by human activity, the blaze has already destroyed homes, injured six—including first responders—and is fueled by deadly winds, dry conditions, and shifting terrain. Governor Lombardo has declared a state of emergency, deploying the National Guard for aerial support and securing neighborhoods, while power outages and highway closures compound the chaos. Families are losing everything—some with just minutes to flee, others able to grab only their pets. Crowdfunding efforts are underway to help victims rebuild. With a second wildfire hitting the region in just two weeks, emergency crews from all levels of government are battling the fire under extreme pressure. Authorities stress: leave now—your life matters more than your home. Casinos are offering discounts, shelters are open (with pet rules), and while major airports remain operational, smaller ones are closed.
