Hazem Faris - Gazan student - 06/08/2026

Earlier this week we covered the story of scholarship students from Gaza being denied study visas after being asked to justify education gaps and provide original bank statements during the period of Israel’s genocide, requirements that are virtually impossible to comply with. One of those students, who was due to come to Carlow is Hazem Faris. Has been studying by torchlight to get the scholarship. He has been displaced 7 times over the past 2 years, is living with constant bombing and gunfire, yet remains courageous and positive in the face of it.
