He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

For the last couple of days I have been reflecting on, Mark 6:5 "And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them". This verse is in the context of Jesus visiting His small obscure home village of Nazareth. Everyone there knew him as a carpenter, rumoured illigitimate son of Mary, and were offended and unreceptive to His divine miracles. This verse of Mark 6:5 implies as to how much more Jesus could have done. However, He was stifled from doing so. The preceding verse describes Jesus as having said that 'A prophet is not without honour except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home". Along those lines we may also be aware and understand the maxim, "Familiarity breeds contempt". Jesus surely can work many miracles but do we also stifle what He so willingly wants to give us and do for us? Sometimes new believers, who are so excited and pleased to have Jesus in their lives, believe Him for far more than those of us who have known of His existence for most of our lives. Is our own attitude limiting Jesus working more in our life?
