Jesus wept. It’s the shortest verse in all of the Bible yet it tells us so much about Jesus. When his good friend Lazarus had been dead for four days, Jesus visited Lazarus’s sisters, Mary and Martha. Upon his arrival, the two women fell down at his feet sobbing. Seeing their sorrow, Jesus’s heart was overcome with grief. He mourned with them. Tears flowed freely down his cheeks as he deeply felt the sadness that we all feel when a loved one dies. In that moment, Jesus showed us how to love through shared experience, by sharing his grief with those who are grieving.
