Healing After Suicide Loss | From Self-Punishment to Allowing Play

from Healing After Suicide Loss with Jon Leclerc, The Suicide Loss Coach | MUSIC ;n HEAL · host Jon Leclerc, The Suicide Loss Coach

My dear fellow suicide loss survivor,In today's episode, we explore a deeply painful and often unspoken belief many survivors carry after loss:The belief that you're no longer allowed to laugh, play, or enjoy your life. After losing someone's physical presence to suicide, self-punishment can become a survival pattern. You may feel that suffering honors your Soul Angel(s).You may believe that joy is betrayal. You may feel that allowing play means you didn't love them enough. Not because you're broken, but because your nervous system is trying to protect the bond.Self-punishment often becomes a loyalty strategy after suicide loss. It keeps us guarded, serious, and braced for pain. But over time, blocking play also blocks regulation, integration, and healing. In this episode, I share how my own healing shifted when I realized that laughter wasn't betrayal. Dancing wasn't disrespect. Music wasn't escape. Play became a way of integrating, not abandoning. We explore how self-punishment keeps our nervous system in survival mode, and how gently reintroducing play signals safety instead of threat. This episode reflects the MUSIC ;n HEAL Approach as a trauma-informed, survivor-led pathway to emotional safety, nervous system regulation, spiritual connection, and post-traumatic growth, without forcing happiness or denying grief. You'll hear why healing doesn't require permanent suffering.Healing begins when play becomes safe again. You'll learn:✨ why self-punishment is common after suicide loss✨ how guilt blocks nervous system regulation✨ why play is regulating, not disrespectful✨ how small moments of music can reintroduce safety✨ how allowing play supports healing without abandoning your bondThis episode is for suicide loss survivors seeking healing after suicide loss through gentle, trauma-informed support.
