It can affect their trust, relationships, family life, emotional wellbeing and, most significantly, their faith journey.When the person who hurt you was someone you believed represented Christ, it can become difficult to separate the failures of that person from your understanding of God. The Bible should never be used as a weapon to silence questions, protect leaders from accountability or manipulate people into doing what they don't want to do.The better we understand Scripture, its context and the character of God, the better equipped we are to recognise when biblical language is being misused.⛪ Choose a church where leaders are accountableHealthy churches should have healthy structures of accountability.A church should be a place where leaders can be questioned, challenged and corrected without people being intimidated, shamed or accused of rebellion simply for raising legitimate concerns.Healthy leadership doesn't demand unquestioning loyalty.🙏 Remember that leaders are humanPastors, ministers, elders, teachers and ministry leaders are not perfect.They are fallible human beings who, like all of us, are capable of sin, mistakes and poor judgement. But they are also recipients of God's grace and mercy.Recognising human fallibility isn't an attack on Christian leadership. It is an important part of keeping leadership in its proper place.And perhaps most importantly:Don't put anyone on a pedestal equal to or above Christ.No pastor.No preacher.No ministry leader.No Christian celebrity.No spiritual mentor.Our ultimate allegiance belongs to Jesus Christ.When we elevate human leaders to a position where they cannot be questioned or challenged, we create an unhealthy environment in which spiritual abuse can flourish. But when leadership is characterised by humility, transparency, accountability, service and grace, churches can become places where people are genuinely safe to grow.This episode is not about throwing out faith because people have failed.It is about recognising the difference between Christ and His followers.People can fail us. Churches can fail us.
