Healing in Your Own Way with Stacy Ruse

from Kathy On the Couch · host Kathy Couch, LCSW, FT

In this episode, I sit down with Stacy Ruse, LPC and ERYT-500 - an internationally recognized trauma trainer, consultant, and author who integrates IFS, somatic work, and transpersonal approaches in a way that is truly unlike anything else in our field. Stacy is also a polyvagal-informed yoga teacher with over 30 years of yoga practice, and she is celebrating the launch of her brand new book, IFS Made Simple, published by New Harbinger. We talk about the journey of writing the book - not just the logistics, but the soul of it. How Stacy moved from DBT and exposure therapy to EMDR and eventually IFS, following her intuition at every turn. How she filled her private practice fast by telling the community to send her their hardest cases. And how the book itself became its own kind of healing process - 18 months of writing, channeling, and becoming. We also get into what it means to bring your whole self into clinical work - your intuition, your body, your ancient wisdom - and why that isn't woo, it's the foundation. Stacy talks about the concept of "soulfull" (spelled F-U-L-L), the balance between mind and heart in clinical spaces, and why her mission is to bring more heart into a field that has been very mind-heavy for a long time. One thing she said that I keep coming back to: "Imagine every voice within you has a place, a purpose, and a story to tell - and you are learning to gently witness and befriend them one at a time." That's the opening reflection of her book. And honestly, it says everything.
