Track and field is celebrated and respected worldwide as a premier sport. One of the disciplines of track and field is long distance running. Its benefits include improved cardiovascular health which strengthens the heart and improves blood flow, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. In addition, increased bone density, reduce the risk of osteoporosis, enhanced muscle strength and endurance, improving metabolic health regulating blood sugar levels and burning calories as well as reducing the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Long distance running can improve your quality of sleep and reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, such as colon and breast cancer. The most common long-distance races are the 5K which covers 3.1 miles. The 10K covers 6.2 miles. The half marathon covers 13.1 miles, and the marathon covers 26.2 miles.
