Healthy eyes

Today I have been drawn to Matthew 6 which is full of advice on how we can productively, humbly, peacefully and confidently lead our lives, but I am specifically drawn to Matthew 6: 22 - 23. These verses compare healthy eyes, which are clear and let in the light of spiritual truths revealing God, as compared to unhealthy eyes which are blind of spiritual matters. Jesus said He is the light of the world (John 8:12) and came to open blind eyes (Luke 4:18) but we need the Holy Spirit, who was upon Jesus which He has sent through His Father God to indwell us too, if we choose. Old Testament prophets prophesied this - Isaiah 35:5 "Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened" and King David in Psalm 146:8 "The Lord opens the eyes of the blind ..." 2 Corinthians 4:6 "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ". If you have no time for the spiritual so think this is a load of baloney, this is hardly surprising. The bible tells us that "The natural person does not accept things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly for him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:14). Only with the Holy Spirit can we understand. We just need to ask.
