Heat Illness Prevention

from Ultra Running Magazine Podcast

The heat is on! And we're not just talking about Courtney Dauwalter's blazing wins at WS100 and Hardrock. Join us as we talk with Dr. Jason Wagner to explore the physiological challenges that runners face in the heat, learn how the body responds and adapts to demanding conditions including, acclimation techniques, hydration strategies and proper nutrition for hot weather running, guiding us toward optimal performance in the most grueling environments. Additionally, we dive into the potential dangers and warning signs that runners must be aware of when pushing their limits in extreme heat.  Dr. Wagner is currently an associate professor and Residency Program Director at Washington University in St. Louis.
