Hebrews 1: The Radiance Of His Glory — Who The Son Is And Why That Changes Everything About Going Back

In this episode of Bible Chapter by Chapter, we walk verse by verse through Hebrews Chapter 1 — the most theologically concentrated opening chapter in the New Testament, written to Jewish Christians under pressure to abandon their faith and return to the synagogue.The letter opens with two verses that hold everything in tension: God has always spoken, through the prophets, genuinely and reliably — and at the end of these days he has spoken by his Son. Not one more prophet. The Son himself. Appointed heir of all things. The one through whom the worlds were made.Then verse 3 — a single Greek sentence containing seven descriptions of the Son. The radiance of his glory — not a reflection but the shining out itself. The exact representation of his being. The upholder of all things by the word of his power. The one who made purification for sins by himself. And then the detail that carries the entire argument of the letter: he sat down. No priest in the Jerusalem temple ever sat down. The work was never finished. The Son sat down because the purification was complete.Then seven Old Testament quotations — Psalms 2, 45, 102, 104, 110, and 2 Samuel 7 — all making the same point. No angel was ever called Son. No angel was ever told to sit at God's right hand. The angels worship him. His throne is forever. He remains when creation wears out. They are sent to serve. He reigns.The readers are being pressured to return to what the angels mediated. The author's answer is not primarily pastoral — it is Christological. Look at who has spoken. Look at who sat down.
