Hebrews 8: The True Tabernacle And The Better Covenant — Jeremiah's Promise And What The Word New Does To The Word Old

In this episode of Bible Chapter by Chapter, we walk verse by verse through Hebrews Chapter 8 — the chapter that pivots the entire letter from the priest to the covenant he mediates, containing the longest Old Testament quotation in the New Testament.The chapter opens with the main point. We have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a servant of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man. The earthly tabernacle Moses built was a copy and shadow of the heavenly one — made according to the pattern shown on the mountain. The original was always in heaven. The readers being pressured to return to the earthly system are being invited to trade the original for the copy.Then the argument from imperfection. If the first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second. The fault is located carefully — not in the covenant itself, which was holy and just and good, but in the people who could not keep it. The Sinai covenant required obedience from hearts that had not been changed. Every repeated sacrifice was honest testimony: not done yet, come back next year.Then Jeremiah 31:31-34 in full — four promises of the new covenant. Law written on the heart, not commanded from outside. I will be their God and they will be my people — the relationship declared, not conditioned on performance. All will know me from the least to the greatest — knowledge of God from within, not mediated through external instruction. And the one on which everything else rests: I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.Not annually covered. Not managed. No more.
