Hebrews - Leviticus 5-6

from Daily Devotional With Murphy Eyenike Hosted by Murphy Eyenike

When the people brought their sacrifices in the Old testament, it was suppose to atone for their sins. So in today's devotional, we read about the instances where people need to offer an offering for sin. Literally, it looked like each day, each people had to go through their itinerary and be sure they had not committed any sin. And even when they were not sure, the law required that they still offer an offering. And so, when the writer of Hebrews says; ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:1‭-‬3‬ ‭NLT‬‬ [1] The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. [2] If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared. [3] But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. Those sacrifices, instead of taking away sins reminded the people they were sinners because they needed to offer their sacrifices again and again. But not so with the sacrifice of Christ. His sacrifice reminds us we are not sinners but children of God.
