Hedge Builder
from The Truth Church
Reverend Ferrell opens with Ezekiel 22:30, where God seeks someone to repair the hedge and stand in the gap but finds none. He explains that a hedge, a thorned barrier, protects the flock from both enemies and straying. Referencing Ecclesiastes 10:8, he warns that breaking a hedge invites a serpent's bite. Using a farm illustration, he describes goats that constantly test the fence to escape their safe pasture, not realizing a predator lurks outside. This mirrors Christians who ignore the protection of God's hedge, tempted by greener grass on the other side. Reverend Ferrell emphasizes that God's Word is the standard: Psalm 119:11 says hiding God's Word in the heart prevents sin. He calls believers to be examples (1 Timothy 4:12) and to teach children diligently (Deuteronomy 6). Prayer and study are essential tools for hedge builders. Ephesians 6 commands putting on the full armor of God—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word—and praying always with perseverance. He stresses that the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12) is given to perfect and edify the saints. Satan knows the scriptures and looks for gaps in believers' lives (Job 1-2). Reverend Ferrell urges self-examination to find and repair any breach, reminding that the adversary prowls like a roaring lion. The spiritual purpose is to challenge hearers to be vigilant hedge builders who protect themselves, their families, and the church by maintaining the boundary God has established through His Word and prayer.
