Heir through God (Galatians 4:7)

from Wrestling with Theology · host Rev. Doug Minton

"So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God" (Galatians 4:7). Because you are no longer a slave, God has made you His heir. What is your inheritance? Everlasting life in Heaven. Jesus died on the cross with His will written in the Scriptures but delivered through the Lord's Supper. His last will and testament to His disciples were these simple means where He gives you His true body and blood so that your sins are forgiven. The Christian's great inheritance culminates in the absence of sin. At the end of earthly life, the believing Christian receives Heaven. "And there shall be no more curse" (Revelation 22:3). "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4). Your inheritance, dear Christian, is everything becoming new. Because God has made you, dear Christian, new. Amen.
