Helfró interview METALLOID Magazine

from METALLOID Hosted by METALLOID

Icelandic Black Metal has an interesting history as a scene and musically. The musicianship along with their ability to capture frigid endless tundras sonically is more than appealing if you are a fan of extreme metal. Helfró is no acceptation with their debut release “Helfró” Bringing you the brutality you expect with nice influences of death metal in arrangement at times and especially the mix. While I love old school Norwegian Black Metal, you can gain some ear fatigue from the purposely poor quality of the mixes. This album gives you relentless full double bass drums along with a “machine gun” snare beat that won’t release you from it’s grip until it’s finished. I also really dig the mixture of vocals provided by Ragnar S: Drums, Vocals, Simon Þ: Guitars, Bass, Vocals, and Gísli S: Clean Vocals with classic shrill black metal vocals, guttural barking death growls along with clean folk/monk style vocals. This is an impressive example of what Iceland has to offer musically. I had the privilege to to talk to Ragnar for a bit about the album and the Icelandic music scene.
