Helicopter Flybys and Pentagon Power Plays | US News

Tension flares in the Pentagon as secrets swirl around a high-stakes military drama: just before being ousted, General Randy George clashed with incoming Chief of Staff Chris LaNeve over an investigation into unauthorized Apache helicopter flybys over Kid Rock’s Tennessee property — a move that sparked national attention and raised alarms about military accountability. While George pushed to uphold protocol, LaNeve allegedly pressured him to halt the probe at Secretary Hegseth’s behest — a directive George found troubling. Hegseth later shut down the investigation himself, cleared the pilots, and praised LaNeve as the kind of leader Trump wants — while quietly sidestepping direct confirmation. Complicating matters further, Senator Joni Ernst opposes LaNeve’s confirmation, and another controversial flight over a protest is under review — all amid claims from the Pentagon that this is “old news” and nothing more than political theater.
