Welcome to the Tweet Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I mean that's pay girl! And you are tuned in to Tweet Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Once again, it's on. Let's get started. Now, are you asking yourself, what in the world is this chick talking about some kind of once again it's on?
Well, let me tell you. I have been kind of just taking inventory, looking around, observing my surroundings, and I've noticed a little something. It seems like there has been a scheme, not just locally, not just nationally, but world-wide. That everybody is slowly reopening, and it seems like their focus is on Memorial Day.
Yes, so everybody is slowly dropping their masking requirements, dropping their distancing requirements, and it appears that by the time Monday rolls around, everything is going to be back to pre-COVID times. I mean, seriously, I would not be surprised if I went to the store tomorrow and there were no more dots on floors, no more little shields up at the registers, no signs on doors with pictures of masks on it asking people to wear them. I think it's going to be like, this was all one big, ugly, nasty dream, and we are going to be back to business as usual. And that bothers me.
That is really scary. And let me tell you why, though. It scares me because I am one of the people out there that has a child that is under the age of 12 years old, and there's no vaccine yet for them. They're saying that they may not get a vaccine until September.
Well, with that in mind, that means that I can't move about like everybody else can, because I have to still keep in mind that my child is not vaccinated although I am fully vaccinated at this point. That's a problem. Why is that a problem? Well, let me tell you why that's a problem.
It's a problem because now I don't trust people. So just because the guideline is out there that if you are fully vaccinated, you can go around without a mask. I do not believe that everyone that I see without a mask on is fully vaccinated. I don't think that everybody I see without a mask on has even had their first shot because some people out there have their own thoughts on this whole idea of what the coronavirus is and what it does.
And what they are going to do in response to it. And therefore, I have to be uber diligent as far as how I move in this space now because I still have a little person that I need to keep in mind. She does not have any type of vaccination. She's not protected from this virus.
And yes, children can get COVID. Stop lying to yourselves. Stop listening to the hype. Children can get COVID.
I have friends who had children to contract coronavirus. So we're not even going to have that discussion. That's not even up for discussion. It can happen.
Period. Point blank. End of story. Moon right along.
So the bad thing though, I think for parents with children that are under the age of 12 is that they are probably feeling left out and anxious. Like they want to get out and do things too. They want to have a great summer. But how great of a summer can you really have if you are still moving in these circles kind of like, you know, for those people who care what other people think.
You know, I saw this thing where this man was talking about how a woman confronted him in the grocery store the other day because she's like, you know, you don't have to wear a mask anymore. And let me tell you, I am on the wish factor with that one. I wish somebody would say something to me about the fact that I have a mask on. I am like, that's just one of those things like I am antsy about.
I want to go places with my mask on and dare somebody to say something to me about the fact that I still have a mask on my face. I am ready for that smoke. I'm ready to start that fire. You know, and I know that's probably a bad thing.
Why is it I'm so anxious and eager to want to tell somebody off for telling me that I don't need to wear my mask anymore? Because you don't know me. That's why. Because you need to mind your business.
That's another reason why I got a whole pocket full of reasons, explanations, thoughts that I would like to share with somebody if they are feeling froggy and want to jump at me with a question like that. Mind yours. And I will continue to mind mine. All right.
I know. You're like, why that? Why? But I just, it bothers me that there are some people out there that seem to think like, they got the memo and you didn't.
I heard what they said. And guess what? I don't trust you. You are the problem.
You are the reason why I have a mask on because I don't know you. So please, by all means, thank you for your comment. Keep it moving, but I got this. All right.
If you are a parent like me and you just kind of want a little bit of guidance on maybe what you can and can't do what you shouldn't do, considering that there are so many adults that are vaccinated at this point, but keeping in mind about the fact that we have children that are not vaccinated, what is a good thing? What's the best way that we should be moving? I found this article in the New York Times and it's titled, What activities can unvaccinated children do? Advice from get this 828 experts.
That's what I'm talking about right there. When you get experts together and start asking them questions and then get answers. That is the business right there. I'm loving the fact that somebody thought it, not robbery to go and pull a bunch of experts together and say, Hey, we got some questions.
People with children want to know what can they do? What say you? And then they took it from there. I love this article.
I have scrubbed it up one side down the other inside out, upside down just any way I can. I have read this article over and over again, and it is going to be what I use to figure out what we're going to do this summer so that we can make it great, you know, because as the steward of one of God's most precious possessions, a child, I have got to do right by this child. I can sit here and be all willy nilly running around left and right doing the most when I know that she could still be at risk. Shoot, I could still be at risk because honestly getting vaccinated does not mean you are Scott free.
You can still catch the coronavirus. This is kind of like contraception. Contraceptives. And this is kind of like sea belts.
Even though you wear a seat belt, you can still end up in a car accident and die. Even though you use contraception, you can still get pregnant and have a baby. So just because you got the virus, not the virus because you got the vaccine does not mean that you cannot still catch the virus. And we got to keep that in mind.
So I'm telling you, this article is wonderful. It goes over stuff about indoor activities, outdoor activities, whether you should mask, whether you shouldn't. And the cool thing is everybody was not 100% on the same side of each one of the questions. Everybody kind of had their reservations.
And in a lot of cases, it was determined by what type of doctor they were. You know, there were some doctors that were a little bit more on the cautious side. And I'm not mad about that. And then there are others that were like, well, according to what we've been seeing, you should be able to do this and be all right.
But of course, we know nothing is 100%. But this gives you a lot larger pool of advice than just your friends on Facebook. Your friends will tell you whatever to get you to come on out and have a drink with them. But this right here, these doctors and experts and whatnot, they don't have nothing to gain or lose by giving you their advice and what they think you should do with your children so that you can have a fun and safe summer.
So I recommend go check it out once again. It's in the New York Times. The name of the article is what activities can unvaccinated children do advice from 828 experts. Definitely.
It's a must read. That was today's episode. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you learned something, especially if you are a parent with a child at the age 12 or younger. By all means, do your due diligence.
Do your homework. I'll link to the article that I mentioned and you know where to find me, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram at HeThat. That's at HeYVETTE or just look for the hashtag tweet trends. You know, I hope that you're able to come up with a plan because you know you want to go ahead and put something in place because what you don't want to happen is to be that parent is sitting there staring your kid in the face.
Just looking at them all summer like, yeah, I really don't know what we can do. So we just going to sit here. Yeah, don't be that parent. Go ahead, start making plans and figure out what it is you can do, where it is you feel comfortable going.
And speaking of that, for this holiday weekend, the same goes for that. Figure out where you're going to go, what you're going to do, and where you feel safe. And if you get to a function and there seems to be like too many people and not enough masks and you're wondering and kind of unsure, don't have no shame. Have your mask in your pocket ready.
Slap it on your face and give anyone the eye that wants to say something to you'd be like, you know what? I can only take care of myself. I can't take care of you too. So what the whole bottom line is is I want you to be safe.
I want you to be smart. I want you to have fun. Don't eat too much. And last but not least, I want to see you back here again on Tuesday.
Okay, have a great weekend.
