Aired November 19, 2023:November is Youth Homeless Awareness Month. At least 4.2 million young people experience a form of homelessness each year. About 50% of all unhoused youth were homeless for the first time in the past year. Thank GOODNESS for places like Covenant House California. They provide a sanctuary and support for youth ages 18-24 facing homelessness and human trafficking. Their programs and services are designed to advance a young person’s physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being in order to provide them with the best chance for success in being independent. All of their programs and services are FREE OF CHARGE. They are ALWAYS in need of support ESP this time of year with donations of time/money & items...and so much more...The vast majority of youth do not become homeless by choice. The causes are complex and not due to a single incident or issue. But certain risk factors can increase a young person’s chances of experiencing homelessness.These demographics are most at risk for becoming homeless: LGBTQ+ youth, pregnant and parenting youth, young people of color Get Help Now On the street? Western Avenue, Hollywood, CA 90027 In Hollywood, CHC’s Safe Haven shelter immediately provides for youths’ basic human needs and urgent medical care. Young people receive a nutritious meal, take a shower with new personal care products, receive new clothes, and sleep in a warm, safe bed. They are then connected to supportive services that will help them thrive.
