ʙᴜғғʏ ᴛʜᴇ ᴠᴀᴍᴘɪʀᴇ sʟᴀʏᴇʀ 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 3 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 12: “𝑯𝑬𝑳𝑷𝑳𝑬𝑺𝑺” For Buffy’s 18th birthday, what should be a milestone of celebration twists into terror when her Slayer powers begin to fade, leaving her exposed and vulnerable. Turning to Giles for answers, she learns he’s been secretly drugging her as part of an ancient Slayer rite of passage—a brutal test that pits her, powerless, against a deranged vampire in a fight for survival. This week we get to really feel scared! Hear our thoughts and Courtney’s genuine fear for Buffy’s life — from feeling completely unsettled by Kralik to questioning what’s going on with Giles. Keeping up with the tradition of gut wrenching horror, we unpack yet another birthday gone wrong for Buffy, unpack the Watchers Council and their abusive control over Slayers, and celebrate how even without her powers, Buffy manages to outsmart her foe with pure resourcefulness. What did you all think of the Cruciamentum and the way Buffy had to go through it powerless? Does this change how you see the Watchers Council now that we know what kind of tests they put their Slayers through? And where are you landing on Giles here — torn between duty and the love he clearly has for Buffy?
