Henley’s Playoff Comeback Wins Big
from San Antonio News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Russell Henley pulled off a jaw-dropping comeback at the Charles Schwab Classic, birdieing the final three holes to force a playoff—and then nailing the clincher on the first extra hole to win his sixth PGA Tour title, cashing in over $1.7 million, a plaid jacket, and a vintage Jeep. Eric Cole, chasing his first win in 120 starts, held the lead for much of the day but couldn’t hold off Henley’s late surge, including a costly double bogey on the ninth. Henley’s gritty recovery—from an early stumble to a clutch finish—showed why he’s a Tour force. Meanwhile, Ben Griffin nearly made history, tying for third in his bid to become the second player ever to win back-to-back at Colonial, falling just short of the glory. The playoff? Pure drama: both hit fairways, Henley’s approach was tighter, Cole’s birdie putt missed by inches—and Henley’s name was etched in victory.
