Henry Dunbar Chapter XXVI - What Happened In The Back Parlor Of The Banking-House

In which Henry Dunbar returns to the banking-house in St. Gundolph Lane after many years, intent on arranging the means to purchase a splendid diamond necklace for his daughter’s wedding, all the while revisiting long-dreaded memories of the past. As he prepares to leave, a determined young woman, Margaret Wilmot, arrives wishing to see him, but the banker resolutely declines, revealing a complex mixture of avoidance and unexpected tenderness.
