Henry Dunbar Chapter XXXVI - Looking For The Portrait

In which Sir Philip Jocelyn and his wife Laura traverse the dusty, somewhat dilapidated quarters of Paris to seek the whereabouts of a long-lost portrait of Laura’s father, painted many years ago by Mr. Michael Kerstall, an artist now aged and forgetful. Despite a thorough and patient examination of numerous gentlemanly canvases amidst a haze of tobacco smoke and stirring reminiscences, their quest ends inconclusively, leaving the cherished likeness frustratingly elusive.
