Her family was imprisoned during WW2; now immigrants are being held in the same camps

Immigrants today are being locked away just as Japanese Americans were detained and incarcerated during World War Two. Why? For no good reason, except racism. For the last 6 decades, Community Change and Community Change Action have been building the capacity of low income people, especially low income people of color, to change policies and institutions that affect their lives. Community Change Creative Director Mikka Kei Macdonald recently spoke with Her Turn reporter Arlene Zaucha about her personal connection to the issue of immigrant detention. Macdonald’s oral history project, tracking her families’ histories, was published in the Princeton journal of Asian American studies.
