Her Husband Sheriff’s Detective, Died From Cancer. He started in law enforcement later in life... when we got the diagnosis we thought we had a lot more time. Line Of Duty Cancer That Took The Life Of Her Husband, Sheriff’s Detective Mitch Speed. Vickie Speed is our guest. She tells her story of watching her husband gradually get worse from the line of duty cancer that eventually took his life. Sheriff's Detective Mitch Speed started his law enforcement career at an age where he was much older than most recruits. Vickie talks about his law enforcement career, his passion for service and dedication to his faith and family. After some health concerns he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Vickie talks about his decline, gradual at first and then rapid towards the end. She also discusses how their law enforcement family supported them and helped wherever and whenever they could. She talks about her life and her family's life after his death. Vickie met Tania Owen they wrote a book together and through their loss they have found their mission.
