She and her mother are very close and she can't say enough great things about her experience as a child. Shirley  created a wonderful  environment to experience as a child. "Her parents were strict but loving. Judy says she knew what her boundaries were in terms of not just outward but inward.  I never felt like it was so strict, I couldn't breathe. I knew what discipline looked like." Shirley used to say "if you're going to do something, do it properly or don't bother." And Judy interprets that by saying, "there's a whole bunch of magic in doing something really, really well.  Invest in yourself and it makes soul magic. Investing in yourself through that process, it makes soul magic."Judy goes on to describe how when her mum was working in the garden, she put her two daughter's in a wheelbarrow when they were little girls. Shirley lined the wheelbarrow with a blanket and filled it with snacks, drinks, books and things to play with and it is to this day one of Judy's fondest memories.
