Here's how my faith almost kept me from marrying the love of my life

from Shari A Smith: Running On Faith And Coffee · host Shari A Smith

Like many people raised in evangelicalism, marrying someone outside of my faith was forbidden.Worse than that, evangelicalism created extremely high stakes to prevent me from marrying outside of my faith. Any future children of mine would likely burn in Hell forever, and I was at high risk of losing my salvation.Evangelicalism created a world where I needed my husband to keep me in line, spiritually so that my soul would remain safe. But deconstruction helped me see that I alone was responsible for nurturing my spiritual growth and that I had little-to-no say in what beliefs my theoretical future children may hold. And yes - I said it’s 2024 instead of 2025. The coffee hadn’t hit yet! =D This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit faithandcoffee.substack.com
