Hesed

from Flipping Tables · host Julie Sexton

On this episode, we use Matthew's geneology as a springboard to jump way back into the Old Testament narrative. It was a treat to have a lesson and conversation around my favorite Hebrew word, Hesed. Women love to study and talk about Ruth. There are numerous Bible studies written on Ruth. The "where you go" verses make their way into many a wedding ceremony.  This is a beautiful love story, and I'm not talking about Ruth meeting Boaz in a grain field. But, that's a nice bonus love story, especially since it teaches us about the abounding, steadfast, unfailing love of God.  Ruth inspires and challenges us. Would we do what she did? Would we be willing to risk living a destitute life in a foreign land to remain loyal to our mother-in-law? Ruth was an outsider. She was familiar with grief. Even though she had already lost so much, she was willing to lay her life down to remain with Naomi. Naomi brings Ruth to Bethlehem with very little hope.  God's not mentioned in this little book. Yet, He is very much present as the sovereign God working behind the scenes, writing a love story worthy of His Son's family tree.  Matthew 1:5-6 Ruth 1:8-17 Exodus 34:6-7 Ruth 2:11-12
