Heston Russell is a retired Commando from the Australian Defence Force active in mental health and veteran charities. After many political parties approached Heston to run on their brand, he decided to form the Australian Values Party and build a long term cultural change to the way Australia understands political leadership. As a leadership expert, author, speaker and practitioner in the ADF, Heston believes Australians politicians are not displaying the qualities of leadership but it doesn’t have to be this way. In this discussion we covered the political landscape of the Australian federal election, but also dived into what really makes a leader, and why we should demand such leaders in politics and in society more broadly.
