Heu-Heu, or the Monster Chapter 12 - The Plot

In which the narrator and his companion learn the nature and peril of the mysterious Tree of Illusions and devise a desperate plan to thwart the priests of Heu-Heu by harnessing powder to break a sluice gate and flood their stronghold. As the night falls, thick with foreboding and rising waters, they prepare themselves for a hazardous escape while wrestling with many uncertainties and the advice of a trusted ally.
