HHFT Abandons Overflow Parking
from Highlands Current Audio Stories Hosted by Leonard Sparks
Dutchess Manor lot faced opposition Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail is eliminating a 47-space overflow parking lot from its plans for turning Dutchess Manor into a visitor center and headquarters for the 7.5-mile trail between Cold Spring and Beacon. The nonprofit had sought approval from the Fishkill Zoning Board to use part of a residential property it bought, along with Dutchess Manor, to create an overflow area where visitors could park if the primary spots were full. But in an Aug. 12 letter to the board, HHFT said it decided to eliminate the lot "based on the feedback throughout the application process" and its "outreach efforts." Neighbors had criticized the plan, which included a 139-foot vegetation buffer. The Planning Board will continue its review of the site plan for the project, which involves demolishing additions to the former catering hall and restoring the original building, which was constructed in 1868.
