In this session, Eddie compares this unfolding Exodus story to the Parable of the Sower. The Hebrews received the word of deliverance from Moses at first with joy. This is similar to when someone first receives a promise from God with joy—but when persecution or affliction comes, they fall away: And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. Mark 4:16-17 When the persecution and affliction came from Pharoah and he told the Hebrews to make bricks without straw, they became offended: And they said to them, “Let the LORD look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.” Exodus 5:21 And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD.’ ” So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage. Exodus 6:8-9 This is how the entire kingdom of God operates. The God of Israel will give you a word or promise. You seek to obey Him and do His will. The enemy will come along and offer a compromise. You will get to a place where as you obey Him, things won’t make sense to you and it will defy human reason and logic. We have to stand firm on the word/promise that was given to us, fixed, firm, and unwavering and patiently wait upon Him, while we continue to obey Him, and trust Him to fulfill the word/promise in His way and in His timing. We see that ultimately the will and the word of God will come to pass but not without affliction, persecution and testing.
