HHMI - Galatians ~ Pt 7 ~ Having Table Fellowship with Non Jews
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
The rabbis taught (in the Oral Torah/Talmud) that if you are a Jew you are not to eat with a non Jew. Paul confronts Peter to his face because Peter would initially have table fellowship with non Jews, but when certain Jewish leaders came to town he would NOT have table fellowship with them: But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision (the Jews). Galatians 2: 11-12 Peter is later given a vision of a sheet coming down from heaven with unclean animals and he hears: “Arise Peter, kill and eat” (Acts 10:13). Does this mean it is okay for him to eat unclean food? NO! In this vision, Peter is being shown to have table fellowship with non Jews. They are invited in to the family of God through Messiah Yeshua! The non Jews are to be received as family members! And he said unto them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
