HHMI - Melchizedek Priesthood ~ Pt 4 ~ The "First" of the Firstborns

The rabbis teach that Adam was the world’s first Melchizedek priest. Adam was the world’s first firstborn. Adam was given the birthright. Adam was made king over God’s creation. Adam was king, priest and firstborn over God’s creation. Adam sinned in his wife’s sin, rather than lay down his life to restore her. Adam and Eve were then exiled/divorced from the Garden of Eden. Next we have Cain. Cain was also a firstborn. Cain and Abel were brothers and they both brought a Minchah offering to the God of Israel. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering. Gen 4:3-4 A minchah offering is a gift from the heart. We are to give our best from the heart. Cain brought a minchah offering from the fruit of the land. Abel brought a firstfruit offering from the firstlings of his flock. Abel’s minchah offering was accepted by God by Cain’s minchah offering was rejected. The reason Abel’s minchah offering was accepted was because he gave it with the right heart and the right attitude. Because Cain’s minchah offering was rejected by YHVH, we can assume that he did not bring his very best offering with a grateful heart. Cain became angry with God and then he killed Abel. Being a firstborn, Cain was responsible for being a spiritual example to his brother, and be willing to lay down his life for his brother. Rather than laying down his life for his brother, Cain rejected responsibility for his brother and killed him.
