HHMI ~ Messianic Passover Seder ~ Pt 2 ~ The Seder Plate and Order of Service

One of the items on the Passover Seder plate is a shank bone. It represents the Passover lamb that was sacrificed. Yeshua is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. We also have matza on our Seder plate. Leaven represents sin. Matza is unleavened bread. Matza is a picture of Yeshua who is without sin. The matza is pierced. Yeshua was pierced for our transgressions. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. Psalm 22:16 The matza is striped. Yeshua was stricken and scourged with stripes on his back: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 Another item on the Seder plate is maror or bitter herbs along with horse radish. Horse radish reminds us of the bitterness of bondage that the Hebrews experienced as slaves in Egypt. It also represents us of the bitterness of bondage to sin. The next item on a Seder plate is charoset. It is a mixture of apples, walnuts, honey, sweet wine, and cinnamon. It represents the mortar in Egypt. It also represents the sweetness of freedom from Egyptian bondage. In a Passover Seder service, there are four cups. The four cups relate to the four “I wills” of redemption spoken of in Exodus 6:6-8. There are 15 steps to the Passover Seder dinner. As you go through each of these steps you are to see yourself as though you are climbing a spiritual ladder, ascending into the throne room of the God of Israel.
