HHMI ~ New Moon Teaching ~ Pt 1 ~ New Moon = New Month

This is a teaching series on the New Moon, which in Hebrew, is “Rosh Chodesh”. There are two major spiritual themes associated with the New moon. Celebrating the New Moon teaches us about rebirth and restoration. Why do we celebrate the New Moon and what is the understanding behind it? Rosh Chodesh, or, the celebration of the New Moon, was the first commandment given to Israel when they were redeemed out of Egypt. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Exodus 12:1-2 The biblical calendar is a lunar based calendar. How can we understand that? We will delve into this. The biblical months are lunar, but the biblical year is solar. In this session, we will also look at the history and the role of the Sanhedrin in judging matters.
