In Exodus 12:8, we are told to eat the lamb with bitter herbs. What is this spiritually communicating to us? Bitterness represents our disobedience to God. Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing That you have forsaken the LORD your God, And the fear of Me is not in you,” Says the Lord GOD of hosts. Jeremiah 2:19 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. Bitterness also represents hardships, trials and testing. The Hebrews came through the Red sea, and then afterwards could find no water. Then they came to the bitter waters of Marah. They were being tested. Yeshua drinks from a bitter cup at Gethsemane. Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” Mark 14:32 The word Gethsemane, in Greek means "an oil press”. Yeshua was being asked to drink from the bitter cup set before him. He did not want to drink from it: Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.” And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.” Mark 14: 34,36 Yet Yeshua yielded. He surrendered. He was completely crushed through “olive press”. As He surrendered his life on the tree, much rich, pure, clean, set apart, olive oil was released. And that olive oil of HIS pure light and extravagant love LIGHTS up the menorah of your heart and mine and millions of others! When hardship and affliction comes your way, how will you respond?
